Why Coffee?
Coffee is a huge part of the DNA of Muncie Alliance Church. The coffee business became the first iteration of the business and ministry model that MAC developed, and it now supports an internship as well as gives our church a unique reputation in the community.
But still…why coffee? Because coffee connects people. God uses a variety of means to introduce people to Himself, and one of the means He has used at MAC is coffee. We believe that God caused us to walk into the coffee business, and He has used it to shape the way we think about ministry. Specifically,
- God gave us the gift of Alliance World Coffees, a roasting business that supports church interns.
- A coffeehouse facilitates church plants.
- A coffee bar at our church adds a sense of fellowship. The coffee bar creates a hub for our church both on Sundays and during the week as people stop by for good coffee and good conversation.
- The coffee house environment encourages the arts. Many of our musicians, painters, sculptors, and writers display their work as worship in the coffee house setting, both inside and outside the church walls, proclaiming the gospel in creative ways.
- Working in a coffee house provides the opportunity to evangelize through service. Whether it’s by building trusting relationships with customers, volunteering to clean the bar, or just giving someone a free drink with no strings attached, servant-hood is easy to practice behind a coffee bar.
